How to take extraordinary pictures
Scott Robert photographya brand new look at life www.scottrobertphotography.comHow To Take Extraordinary PicturesRock, Paper, Scissors
I had a chance to play "rock, paper, scissors" with some children at an orphanage in China. I couldn't believe the reaction I caused. Every child was running up to me, wanting to play this universal game. I couldn't speak Chinese so this was my way of communicating. For a few brief minutes, I felt like the most popular man in China. Every child desperately wanted to spend a few brief seconds with me. I realized at that moment what a blessing it is to have family and a father or mother who loves you. It seems like a simple thing, just part of everyday life but the gift of love is an extraordinary thing.
As I began to leave, the children came running after me. I turned around and took this picture. It was a profound moment in my photographic career because I realized my interaction with the human experience can create a powerful image.
If you would like to read more about my experiences with our trip to China and the adoption of your two girls see www.limfamilystory.com
Extraordinary images are the result of extraordinary living. Live life and begin to see your photography in a brand new way.
I'm taking a photography group to China this year, anyone interested?
Btw, I took this picture with a Nikon film camera, N80 with a 35mm prime.

My Secret Beach in Hawaii, Big Island
Scott Robert photographya brand new look at life www.scottrobertphotography.com [new images and music]How To Find My Secret Beach on the Big Island, Hawaii
Our Family Vacation in HawaiiI'm finally posting our vacation pictures in Hawaii. I think we had the most fun hanging out with our family, eating and going to the beach. My girls can play at the beach all day! Amazing how much fun they can have with sand, water and a bit of imagination!!
Above is a map of our secluded little beach only the locals know about. I'm not going to say no one goes there but I will say it is extremely quaint and cozy. It is a small beach and if you happen to swim around to the next cove above, I hear it is a nude beach! Bring your 70-200! hahahaa. We also went the black sand beach and saw a lot of amazing sea turtles!!
Here are a few preview- the more artistic images, sorry but the slideshow has a lot of group shots!! Some of the places we visited- City of Refuge, Black Sand Beach, Akaka Falls, Puako Bay Beach, Kona, Volcano.
I'm Back!!I know I have been away for awhile but I plan to get my blog up and running in 2009. There is a lot of exciting stuff I want to blog about, including more details about my workshops. I am sorry to say that my Las Vegas workshop is SOLD OUT but since I have room for 20 more students on Sunday, I will have a special sign up for those who just want to learn about post processing. It will include my LR set of presets and my PS3 action set!
Stay tuned for more details.I am planning to post all my 2008 wedding slideshows by Feb so stay tuned for a bunch of wedding imagery!
I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday Season and I wish you all the best in 2009.

Success in Hard Times
Scott Robert photographya brand new look at life www.scottrobertphotography.com [new images and music]Finding Success in Hard Times
Congrats to Erik VailOne of the best ways to increase business is to simply be world class in what you do. Anyone can lower their price but to keep your upper hand and stay afloat in hard times, you need to be great at what you do. I always mention to people getting into the wedding photography business that you have to push yourself to be in the top 5% if you are going to be successful. Which means out of 100 photographers, you have to be better then 95 of them. Simply lowering your price will not guarantee an increase in business because people are always searching for the best value.
Take for example Zune and iPod- portable mp3/media players. If Zune and iPod both discounted their products by 50% I would assume iPod would still sell a heck of a lot more than Zune. I'm not sure anyone would buy a Zune! Why? because iPod is perceived as higher up on the quality ladder. Be at the top of the ladder and control the market and your sales. When hard times strike, people still purchase value. Higher quality products at lower prices are always more attractive than mediocre products at lower prices.
Erik came to one of my workshops in Canada last year. After talking to him, I knew he was concerned about being the best. His father who also is an amazing and respected photographer in the industry, has taught him so much and to be even mentioned as one of Erik's influences is very humbling and such an honor for me. It is so rewarding to see many of my students climbing that ladder and becoming the best at what they do and finding healthy doses of success. I see nothing but blue sky for Erik because he is committed to being the best and I'm glad I can help him in a small way.
Go to www.scottrobertworldtour.com to here what he had to say about one of my workshops. Thanks Erik for being an inspiration.

speaking tonight!
Scott Robert photographya brand new look at life www.scottrobertphotography.com [new images and music]Speaking at TCPP Tonight!
Speaking on Lighting, Business, etc.Tonight I have the privilege of speaking at Tri-Community Photo, in West Covina. A great place to learn at an amazing price. I think a whole quarter only costs around $100 and you have access to professional printing, scanners, computers, lighting equipment and studio, etc for NO ADDITIONAL COST. TCPP is especially awesome if you are just starting out and you want to learn the basics. I also speak at the school once or twice a year- I like to know what's going on with photographers in my local community.
All are welcomed and you do not have to be a member to come to the lectures. I believe it is $25 if you are not enrolled.
Hope to see you tonight!

Hollywood couple Cerina & Ben
Scott Robert photographya brand new look at life www.scottrobertphotography.com [new images and music]Cerina and Ben
A Real Hollywood CoupleIt's a shame Cerina and Ben's 1920s apartment, in the heart of Hollywood will be knocked down in a few months. The mighty dollar is much stronger than nostalgia I suppose. Although this session was taken in the afternoon, I wanted to give part of the session a romantic and glamorous feel. It is amazing what a few candles and a single flashlight can do! (Thanks to Ben who assisted me with lighting while I photographed Cerina, he deserves all the credit!). These pictures where photographed in one area of their awesome apartment. They are such a great couple to work with. I'm sure you're gonna like these photos.
You may recognize Cerina, she is an author and an actress. Ben also works in the entertainment industry. Although he does not act, he has a great look- he looks a little like Brad Pitt ladies! They are getting married next month in beautiful San Francisco where Ben grew up and I can't wait to begin the fun again.
Here's a little scoop on Cerina...
Cerina Vincent was crowned Miss Nevada Teen USA at age 16, but she soon realized that she was so not a "beauty queen" – those girls are nuts. After moving to LA-LA Land, her acting career took off at age 18. She showed off both her acting skills and athleticism as Maya, The Yellow Power Ranger in the Fox series, POWER RANGERS LOST GALAXY. Since yellow spandex isn't flattering on anyone over 20, she quickly went from a TV super hero to a silver screen sex symbol as "Areola" in NOT ANOTHER TEEN MOVIE. MAXIM, one of the many magazines she has appeared in, wrote, "We have photographed beautiful women all over the world, and Cerina Vincent has the best body, period." But Cerina is not only recognized for her fit, natural physique. She was nominated for the Saturn award's "Best Face of the Future" for her outstanding lead performance in the horror sensation, CABIN FEVER. Cerina's face can also be seen along with some of the biggest television stars in her guest-starring roles on shows such as, ALLY MCBEAL, FELICITY, MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE, SEX, LOVE AND SECRETS, CSI, and BONES. Cerina has also starred in a ton of television pilots, showing off both her comedy and dramatic chops, so fingers crossed that one day her shows get picked up by the networks! She has also done a ton of low-budget indie horror movies that you may get kick out of, starred in the action thriller IT WAITS, and showed her edgier, more dramatic side in DARKENED ROOM, a short film created for her and directed by David Lynch.
More of Cerina's comedy can be seen in the film ONE PART SUGAR (coming out in 2008) where she plays Danny DeVito's wife, and shows a bit more skin than her Italian Catholic family will like, but whatever, it's a tough business. And speaking of Italian, Cerina stars in her first romantic comedy (yay!) called EVERYBODY WANTS TO BE ITALIAN! Cerina is very excited about this film, and it will out for the world to enjoy March 7, 2008.
In addition to HOW TO EAT LIKE A HOT CHICK, Cerina has co-written screenplays and TV pilots, But most importantly, she has figured out how to maintain a pretty kick-ass body while still enjoying chocolate cake and beer, and is excited, along with gal pal Jodi, to share their secrets with hot chicks all over the world!
