Scott Robert photographyview my official website www.scottrobertphotography.comFinding Light that Creates Dimension
Add dimension to your photos by taking advantage of "off camera" lighting. When you add light to a subject with light that is not on your camera or "off camera" the light will create shadows and give dimension to your subject. That is the one skill new and less experienced photographers need to master to separate themselves from their Competition!
Reflectors bounce light at the subject at different angles and create nice lighting. I am starting to use reflectors more and more but NOT the kind you buy. You will be surprised where you can find a natural reflector. You can use a wall, a car hood, a shinny surface.
In the above image I used a reflector to illuminate the subjects. A good way to see where the light is coming from is to examine the shadows.
Pop Quiz: Where and what is the reflector in the above image? What's In theWorks....

thanks for the tip. i'll keep that in mind.
great tip
I'm guessing it's the top of the shed their standing under? haha
the walkway that they're standing on?
Kenny, you're supposed to let the beginners guess!!!
Scott, I'm still impressed with the fantastic pink hue you've found. I can't get enough of it!
Of course at your workshop this week I'm sure you'll stress the importance of sparing usage and diversity, but you know what I mean... I can't get enough of YOUR style...
=Matt=
the roof?
wow, such a beautiful photo...you make me wanna quit my job and learn photography
light-colored walkways/sidewalks are great reflectors. that'll be my guess.
Love the SF Japanese Tea Garden! The way you lit there faces is really cool and ads lots of drama to the image. I really need to get in on one of your workshops if you ever have one in SF or the Sac area. I am still trying to get enough people for Sacramento to get you here.

hi, i'm a new subscriber. i got married earlier this year and as much as i loved our photographer, had i known about you sooner, i would have chosen you. =) i got the answer after reading the comments above but otherwise, i would've never guessed!
thanks for the tip! now i just have to figure out how to apply it correctly...hehehehe! love the photo~ and all your photos...they all have such great depth to them.
wow! nice photo! love the post processing!
Hi Scott,
It's the cement walkway directly if front of them. The photo
actions you chose to use on this particular image may throw some viewers off
as you have deliberately brought down the foreground highlights by a few
stops.
Nice image by the way.

i'm shooting for the path/walkway right in front of them...at least that's what it looks like... =) do i get a prize?
Wow, again so beautifully done!
Thanks for your wish. I'm definitely lost as ever in finding my passion. You are truly an inspiration.
Btw, I just found out not too long ago, a few of my friends has been keeping up with your blog and your work too. We were just discussing photography in general and they brought up your website. I said, "Oh, you don't have to tell me about him. I already know!"
Why the walkway of course! I used that trick on my daughter, the sun was back lighting her hair and the concrete path lit up her face. I have learned so much from studying your picture over the past year.
Thanks and God Bless~ Mary
It looks like the light is bounced from the shed above the subjects but the main light is reflected from someone behind the fence maybe? lol~
Lovely photo. I really enjoy the artistic color casts you have on some of your photos!
nice pic
just beautiful.
Nioce!!! I love that spot.
Great image, generous tip.
What a cool photo!
I learn something every time I come by here. I love it
i can only see the top light and the back light is the strongest here..
Awesome! Need to do some experimentation now. =] Have a great time in Paris!
is it behind the bush on the right?
