Jenny and Tom Tease
Workshop vs. Wedding Imagery Jenny and Tom tease Some people think it is cheating to use workshop imagery as part of their portfolio. I strongly disagree because both events exercise different muscles. In my humble opinion (IMHO), I've seen my work grow tremendously over the past year in regards to wedding imagery and I directly attribute that to attending workshops. Workshops allow the photographer to stretch their vision and to create images that are out of the box, different and new. The photographer gets to apply new ideas and perfect their craft. Many times a workshop will inspire the soul. Weddings on the other hand, force the photographer to be creative in a set environment. If you were a chef, a workshop would be like being asked to cook anything their heart desires, whatever they always wanted to cook. A wedding is like asking a chef to only cook chicken but to cook it any way he wants to. Wedding photography can look all the same after awhile if the photographer never gets inspired or pursues new directions- just like a mother cooking the same chicken dish, year after year. I've done over 200 weddings and it is hard to keep it fresh and innovative at times but that is the challenge and joy of it. The great photographers seem to keep pushing themselves into new directions- they have to or else the work becomes non-creative like a regular job- punch in and punch out. If I was a bride to be, and shopping for a photographer, I'd be thrilled to see my wedding photographer taking some time to expand, learn and invigorate their soul. The last thing I would want my photographer to feel is like my wedding is just another job! I've been coming up with new ideas on how to approach my wedding photography a little differently so I'm feeling good about where I am going with my wedding work and I hope my clients do too! I have sooooo many weddings to show you so stay tuned for some good stuff! Here are some tease photos from Jenny and Tom's wedding in San Jose. Workshop images are nice n' all but REAL wedding photos have a nice feel to them too! Enjoy.

OH MY GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW! SO many favorites, SHE"S GOING TO BE OVER THE MOOOOOOOOOOOOOON! I love the one with the wedding party walking with the gray sky. the one where's she's hugging him smiling and he's looking forward. the profile one of her looking up with her legs in front of her. the staircase one with the small one of them from the top view. I can't wait to see their slide show!!!!!!!
and the very first one, OMG, love love love LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE!
Hey Scott...awesome! I love the way you have you shot these images and how you post processed them. Was I at this wedding too? I have been waiting to see what you had shot and had high expectations but again you have exceeded what I could image. You continue to inspire me to no end.
It's the Scott Robert touch! =D

You've found the outerbounds of what you do that others only dream about and your finished creations are not just photographs but works of art. I totally agree with you about thinking out of the box and trying new ideas, this is why you have excelled like you have and knowone comes even close. As photographers we get set in our ways and only try at times to be different then we let ourselves get beaten down by brides who still only want the traditional style of photos. What you've done is created a niche style that sells your work as art, rather than the stuffy old world style of traditional photography, and we all know that today's bride is not old world, rather highly educated and open to your pandora's box of work. I think that is the secret to your success and its one I and others need to start looking at more closely if we want to stand out from all the newbee's getting into this field.
Kudo's to you Scott!
Randall
Many of your images are painterly this time... like many artist's once you've perfected your craft,
then comes the freedom to explore and expand your vision.
awesome photos! it was nice meeting you Friday evening! I heard you slept with Sean. awesome. ha.
@radjbo - hmmmm, "sleeping with sean" and "awesome" don't think I would have put those two phrases together. But yes, it was a pleasure meeting and getting to know Sean but sleeping in the same room is not high on my list of exciting things. Hahahaha. I had a great time having sushi with you. Hopefully our paths will cross again!! take care!
@broncomom - Hi Mary, you are so right, the more proficient you are at something, the more creative you can get!
WOW, that first shot is just WOW!!!!
scott, i love how you keep growing and don't ever stop seeking like your life depends on it. keep doing what you're doing. love the first one as well as some others in particular. you are wicked! btw, heard you slept with sean too!
@CfelicityC -
hmmm, i guess everyone knows I spent the night with Sean! So many women only dream of the things that I actually do!! hahahaha. See you in Spain, it will be off the hook!!!!!!!!!
@MLyssaD - Hey Lyssa, you need to have a link on your Xanga that goes to your blog!!!
